Director of Marching Bands
David M. Blon is the Associate Director of Bands at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. He is the director of the Marching Band, conductor of the Symphony Band, and teaches courses in conducting, instrumental methods, and music education. Mr. Blon alo re-introduced the Percussion Ensemble program to UH Manoa in Spring of 2012.
Mr. Blon previously served as Assistant Director of Bands at Mercer Area High School in Mercer, PA. A native of Western Pennsylvania, Mr. Blon holds a Bachelor of Music in education and percussion from Slippery Rock University, and a Master of Music degree in conducting from Youngstown State University. During his YSU residency, Mr. Blon also served the Associate Conductor of the Henry H. Stambaugh Youth Concert Band program and conductor of the Brass Choir for the Youngstown Symphony Youth Orchestra. Mr. Blon has studied conducting with Stephen Gage, Stephen Hawk, Stephen Barr, and James Berry.
Mr. Blon is active as a guest conductor, clinician, educator, and adjudicator throughout Hawaii. He is a member of the Hawaii Music Educators Association, the Oahu Band Directors Association, the Percussive Arts Society, the National Association for Music Education, the College Band Directors National Association, and the National Band Association.
