Communicate with the Senate
WHEREAS, it is fundamental to the mission of UH Manoa to provide the highest quality undergraduate instruction possible; and
WHEREAS, graduate teaching assistants play a significant role in undergraduate instruction; and
WHEREAS, it is therefore important for all graduate programs to have in place procedures for effective training, supervision and mentoring of teaching assistants; and
WHEREAS, the Graduate Division has proposed a mandatory teaching assistant training program to provide the necessary training, mentoring, and monitoring; and
WHEREAS, the proposed program will be primarily implemented at the department level: and
WHEREAS, there is a need for flexibility in formulation of how the program requirements can be achieved in order to satisfy the varying needs and constraints of each department; therefore
BE IT RESOLVED that the UH Manoa Faculty Senate approves of the establishment of a mandatory teaching assistant training program in consultation with department chairs and chairs of graduate fields of study.
