RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A SPECIAL COURSE NUMBER FOR REGISTERING STUDENTS AT UHM WHO WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMS

WHEREAS there are students at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa (UHM) who participate in international exchange programs for a semester or a year; and

WHEREAS there is no system in place currently to register such students at the UHM and thereby collect tuition and fees, allow for application of tuition waivers or other financial aid programs, and maintain visa requirements for international students who may participate in such activities; and

WHEREAS by reciprocal agreements tuition is not usually charged at cooperating overseas host institutions; and

WHEREAS the UHM Academic Procedures Committee and the UHM Committee on International Education have recommended that a specific course XXX 099, with variable credits allowed, CR/NC grading, and adopting the alpha of the particular college organizing the international exchange program, be established for the purpose of registering students who are studying in other countries; and

WHEREAS there is broad support and no specific objection to such a proposal from the administration or other programs involved in studies in other countries;

BE IT RESOLVED that the Manoa Faculty Senate recommends that the proposed new course XXX 099-V, with CR/NC grading, be created, and that copies of this resolution be forwarded to the UHM administration and all programs and committees directly affected by it.
