Communicate with the Senate

An Amended Resolution from the Manoa Faculty Senate Regarding the Merger of the Departments of Communication and Journalism

Whereas the proposed merger of the Department of Communication and the Department of Journalism will preserve these majors and better serve the needs of students in these programs, and

Whereas the faculty in these programs have given their consent to the merger as proposed, therefore be it

Resolved that the Manoa Faculty Senate supports the reorganization of the Departments of Communication and Journalism into a new unit to be operated as a department within the College of Social Sciences, and be it further

Resolved that the name of this unit be given careful scrutiny by the administration especially with regards to ramifications for university organization and planning, and work with the departments to come to an understanding that is in the university's best interest.
