RESOLUTION TO ENSURE TRANSPARENCY, EQUITY, INCLUSIVITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY IN ADMINISTRATIVE SEARCHES AND HIRING

Given the lack of transparency that undermines public trust in the accountability and credibility of this institution; sends the wrong message to students, the community and the world at large; and raises the risk of expensive and time-consuming entanglements, be it resolved that the Mānoa Faculty Senate:

  • deplores inequitable and unfair search processes, as evidenced by the recent central campus position of vice chancellor for academic affairs,
  • seeks a written commitment from the chancellor that the flawed search and hiring process shall be avoided in the future by collaborating with the Mānoa Faculty Senate to establish standard procedures for administrative searches and hiring that ensure transparency, equity, inclusivity and accountability and
  • requests that copies of this resolution be sent to the Chancellor, each member of the Board of Regents and toUniversity of Hawaii President David McClain.
