RESOLUTION TO APPROVE PROPOSAL FOR A MASTER OF SCIENCE IN FINANCIAL ENGINEERING
WHEREAS, its geographical location provides University of Hawai'i at Mānoa an advantage over business schools on the continental U.S. in addressing Asian and Pacific rim financial market demands; and
WHEREAS, the Financial Engineering program (MFE) is an increasingly popular degree offered by business schools worldwide that will address needs of international, national, and local commercial banks in the field of insurance and risk management, and
WHEREAS, the high quality degree in Financial Engineering should add significant value to the academic standing of the Shidler College of Business and the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, provide a benefit to the economy of Hawai'i through the high tech knowledge of MFE graduates, and support Economic Development aspects of the Mānoa Strategic Plan; and
WHEREAS, the establishment of a Master of Science in Financial Engineering housed within the Shidler College of Business will create a locus for tying together resources from across the Mānoa campus into a value-added, environmentally friendly program that will provide "clean" jobs for the state, and
WHEREAS, faculty interested in being associated with MFE represent at least four different departments and multiple colleges and currently teach courses and are available to work with MFE students, and
WHEREAS, the Master of Science in Financial Engineering will further contribute to the University’s strong reputation for service and outreach through its "culminating experience" which places graduate students with local companies to solve real world business problems, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, the Mānoa Faculty Senate approves the Master of Science in Financial Engineering.
