A Streetcar Named Desire
Photo of Streetcar Named Desire By Tennessee Williams
Directed by Lurana Donnels O’Malley

Nov 10, 11, 16, 17, 18 at 8pm
Nov 19 at 2pm

Not seen at Kennedy Theatre since 1973, A Streetcar Named Desire is often considered Tennessee Williams’s greatest play. Streetcar premiered on Broadway in 1947 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The 1951 film by Elia Kazan won four Oscars out of its twelve nominations. Set in New Orleans, the play is the story of the conflict between Blanche DuBois (clinging to and haunted by the ghosts of her past) and Stanley Kowalski (her rough but vibrant brother-in-law).

The scenic design is inspired by the work of New Orleans artist and photographer Johnny Donnels and some of his art will be on view in the lobby. A screening of the film The Pink Satin Suit, about his life and work, will be held on Thursday Oct. 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the Yukiyoshi Room.

Kyōgen

Training by Japanese Kyōgen Masters

Jan 26, 27, Feb 1, 2, 3 at 8pm
Jan 28, Feb 4 at 2pm

Kyōgen, a medieval Japanese farcical form, is alive and well in the 21st century. This program of four traditional plays will highlight the range of stock characters commonly found in kyōgen plays, from the conniving servant, Tarô Kaja, and dim-witted son-in-law, to a very earthly demon and high-handed lord knocked from his high horse. A program filled with mirth that will bring anyone out of post holiday blues!

“All the world’s a stage...,” so muses the melancholy Jacques in Shakespeare’s romantic comedy As You Like It. The play is one of Shakespeare’s most produced comedies and features some of his best creation--Rosalind, Jacques, Touchstone, and Orlando. The play is about redemption as the characters find love, laughter, music and a simpler life in the magical Forest of Arden. As You Like It is directed by new faculty member Paul T. Mitri, one of the founders and past Artistic Director of the Seattle Shakespeare Company.
Funding provided by the Women’s Campus Club.
