Matlab Site License Program

FAQs:

  • Who can participate in this program?
All active UH Faculty, Staff and students can participate in the Matlab TAH Program.
  • How long will this license last?
The Matlab TAH software is currently valid until July 31, 2024. If this contract is renewed, all licenses will need to be reactivated at this time. If there is a lack of funds to support this contract, all licenses will terminate after the 30-day grace period.
NOTE: Please contact the ITS Site License Office if your department/campus is able to contribute to this program. Lack of funding for this contract may result in the cancellation of this program.
  • What is an Individual License?
Students, faculty, and staff may download an individual stand-alone copy of the software for each of the machines on which you are the sole MATLAB user (includes office and personal machines). Simply go to the UH MATLAB portal to begin software download and activation of the license.
  • What is a Network Concurrent License?
For large scale MATLAB deployments in on-campus computing facilities (classrooms and labs), the MathWorks TAH concurrent network license should be used. Using MATLAB in these environments requires a network connection to access the license server.
  • What is a Campus License?
For single computers that cannot connect to the network for the license server, which are used by several authorized users, the MathWorks TAH campus license should be used. These shared-use workstations will run MATLAB without access to the network once the software has been downloaded and the license activated.
Example for Campus usage: Oceanography students are sharing the same single laptop offshore with no internet access.
  • I am part of UH but I'm getting an error, "You are not permitted to use this license for University of Hawaii. For further assistance, contact your university.
Please contact the ITS Site License Office at sladmin@hawaii.edu for further assistance.
  • Where am I authorized to install this on?
Authorized users can install this on UH owned computers, personally owned and home computers, as long as the software is used by the UHM faculty/staff/student.
  • Are these stand-alone licenses?
If you logged in with your own UH and MathWorks account, the software that you download and install is a stand-alone product.
If you are using/setting up Matlab in a classroom or a computer lab, this would be a Network Concurrent License which requires a network connection and is not a standalone product.
If you are using/setting up computer with a Campus License, the software that you download/install/use is a stand-alone product.
  • Where can I get training?
Go to the UH Matlab Portal and click on the Get free training link under the MATLAB Training section.
  • Where can I get support on using the Matlab software?

  • How big is the install software file, how long does it take to download and how much space will the software take?
For all available Matlab products, it may take approximately 1 hour to download and install (time will vary depending on your network). The Matlab directory will take approximately 13 GB of space.
  • Do I have to install all the toolboxes under the Matlab TAH?
No. During the installation you can choose which toolboxes you want to have installed on your computer. Additional toolboxes under the Matlab TAH can be added at a later time if needed.
