The East-West Philosophers' Conference is co-sponsored by the University of Hawai‘i, Mānoa and the East-West Center, located next to one another in the Mānoa Valley of Honolulu on the island of Oahu. Conference lodging options include housing at the East-West Center and hotels in Waikiki/Honolulu. There are three hotels on the North Shore, the Leeward Coast and the Kahala area of east Honolulu but they would be an inconvenient distance from the conference location. Most hotels are located in Waikiki, a neighborhood of Honolulu below Mānoa. These accommodations range from high-end luxury suites to inexpensive lodging, generally located a block or two off the beach. Some hotels offer a special rate for EWPC conference participants (Hotels with Special Rates list). Most are less expensive if bundled with airfare as a package, either by a travel agent, through an online travel site or your airline. Waikiki is about 9 miles from the airport. A city bus runs from the airport to Waikiki (fare $2.50) but only carry-on luggage may be taken on the bus, no large bags. Taxis are available (fare about $35) as are several shuttles (fare about $9).
Waikiki is about two miles from campus (if walking, 2 1/2 if driving). A city bus runs from the hotel district directly to UH (TheBus Route 4). If you wish to rent a car, please be aware that most hotels charge a daily fee for parking and there is little free parking on or near the university.
Lodging at the East-West Center is very convenient and much less expensive. However there is limited availability. Options range from dormitory-style rooms with shared baths to rooms with private baths and kitchens. Information is available on the Center website; please contact them directly.
