Interim procurement procedures
I want to thank Board of Regents Chair Howard Karr and Vice Chair Dennis Hirota for expediting the creation of a BOR task group charged with reviewing interim procurement procedures. Furthermore, I want to thank the task group members, which include Regents Hirota, Lee and Martinson, for their timely meeting and review of the proposed interim procedures.
In the very near future, I will announce the members of a blue ribbon panel that will include two members of the Board of Regents. The panel will review the interim procurement procedures and report to me any comments and recommendations for further modifications.
In the meantime, the university will operate under the interim procedures.

The Board of Regents voted to approve interim procurement procedures based on the passage of Act 82, which provides the university with limited flexibility in relation to the state procurement code, effective July 1.
The flexibility granted to the university will allow routine procurement to be done more efficient and construction projects started more efficiently and at a faster pace, which in turn will help put many of Hawaii’s construction workers back to work and boost the state’s economic recovery.
