What words of wisdom or advice would you like to share with incoming UHM students?
Stay on top of things and check your Hawaii.edu email just as much as you check your text messages because now you're becoming adults and you won't always have people to remind you to go to class or to turn in an assignment. So stay on top of those things and trust me you will be better off!
What is your favorite college moment so far?
My favorite college moment so far is actually getting a scholarship. Even though I have received scholarships before, actually getting a scholarship at a University to me was very assuring. It means to me that I am working hard and doing my best to succeed at a University where there are an abundance of smart students around me.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
I would definitely have the superpower to read minds. I'm always wondering what people are thinking so that would be awesome!

What is the best class you have ever taken at UHM?
This past semester, I was enrolled in Ethnic Studies 221: Hawaiians, where I had the opportunity to take a service trip to the island of Kaho'olawe. I generally enjoy all of our Hawaiian Studies classes here on campus because I love the material and learning about Hawaiian history, but this trip was by far the best part of the class. Very few people have the chance to visit Kaho'olawe, so this was my favorite class because of this rare opportunity.
What words of wisdom would you like to share with the parents and family members of incoming UHM students?
Your student will gain a lot of independence during their time here at UH Manoa. Trust that they will have a lot of fun and make memories that will last a lifetime. Although they may forget to say it, they really appreciate your support and encouragement throughout college. P.S. care packages are always appreciated :)
If you could be any animal, what would you be?
I would be a dolphin because they are considered very smart in the animal kingdom and they get to experience life under the ocean

What is the best class you have ever taken at UHM?
It's hard to decide between a few, but I enjoyed taking Media Writing (JOUR 250) with Suzanne Roig. The class taught me how different journalism writing is and also the different styles (news, features, etc.) My professor was also very encouraging and really interesting to talk to since she has experience in the field. She would also bring other professionals in the field to talk to our class. It was the class that made me realize that I had a real knack for journalism.
What is your favorite college moment so far?
How can I pick? There's been so many! Because I work at our university's newspaper, I had the opportunity to cover IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) World Conservation Congress when they came to the United States for the first time. I got to interview a lot of public figures like Jane Goodall, Jack Johnson, Prince Albert II of Monaco, Alison Sudol (from Fantastic Beasts), etc. It was all very exciting!
What are 3 goals on your bucket list?
1. Eat food from every place or truck on campus.
2. Get an internship.
3. Graduate with an internship or a job

What do you like most about the University of Hawaii at Manoa?
In Manoa I enjoy the professors more than anything. I have experienced some of the greatest classes ever where I am learning and also enjoying the class. Creating those relationships with my professors only made me aware of becoming a great student and better person in life. I have grown so much because of them.
Where is your favorite place to study off-campus?
Anywhere besides home. I cannot study at home; there are too many distractions. I tend to lose focus in trying to study whenever I'm at home.
What do you think is the greatest invention ever invented?
It would have to be language because without it we wouldn't be able to communicate with one another and the whole world would be silent.

Major: Bachelor of Arts in Communications
Hometown: Huntington Beach, CA
Where is your favorite place to study on-campus?
My favorite place to study on campus is Hamilton Library. It's never too crowded and is almost always extremely quiet, making it easier to concentrate. It also has AC!!
What words of wisdom or advice would you like to share with incoming UHM students?
Take advantage of resources on campus. The four years go by really fast so try stepping out of your comfort zone as much as possible. Support our sports teams, try joining a club on campus, or attend a couple events your RA's host!
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
Japan! I studied abroad last year and fell in love with the culture, scenery, and food. There's always something new to do in Japan.

Where is your favorite place to eat on-campus?
My favorite place to eat on campus is at the Resident Dining (Hale Aloha Cafe and Gateway Cafe). Resident Dining makes the most sense if you are living on campus with a meal plan mainly because there is a wide variety of foods to choose from and it is all you can eat.
What is your favorite college moment so far?
Being able to take all of my college friends flying to the other islands and seeing the excitement on all of their faces.
What are 3 goals on your bucket list?
1. Visit every continent

What made you decide to attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa?
I wanted to attend the University of Hawai'i at Manoa after I graduated from high school because UH Manoa offers a rich experience in culture diversity for all who visit here. I never appreciated everything that UH Manoa has to offer until I left for one semester through the National Student Exchange Program, attending the University Texas at San Antonio. Looking back at Hawaii when I was up there helped me realize everything that Hawaii has in offering people and this world. I greatly appreciate the uniqueness of Hawaii in comparison with the rest of the United States. The "Aloha Spirit" is really present all throughout the Manoa area.
What is your favorite college moment so far?
My favorite college moment was my internship on Capitol Hill in Senator Hirono's office. Working in DC is one of the most rewarding experiences anyone can do. I would highly recommend it for anyone who wants to eventually end up in the area of politics at some point. It's a very different atmosphere up there. Through surrounding yourself with these people, you will grow exponentially in maturity.
What is a quote or mantra you like to live by?
"Never ever quit on your goals. Always strive for excellence in all that you do, as that will really open up the doors of success for you in the future".

Major: Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology
Hometown: Honolulu, HI
What is the best class you have ever taken at UHM?
KRS 203 or KRS 395, because these classes were the reason why I stuck with Kinesiology as my major. The classes were informative in what Kinesiology is all about. Also, the teachers I had for these classes really made the class interactive and fun, which is hard to do when teaching a lecture class.
What are you involved with on-campus?
I'm in Spoon University. It's a food blog that shows everyone where the best places to eat at, not only on the island of Oahu, but also the other islands that represent our beautiful state of Hawai'i. So if you ever need to find some go to places for awesome food follow @spoon_hawaii on Instagram! You won't be disappointed!
Do you have any unusual fears or phobias?
Roaches. I can't stand them...ESPECIALLY if they fly. If I see a flying roach you'll see me out of a room in less than a second.

Major: Bachelor of Science in Travel Industry Management (hospitality)
Hometown: Honolulu, HI
What made you decide to attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa?
I chose University of Hawai'i at Manoa as it was the perfect setting to study hospitality. The school is located in a tourism hub of Hawai'i which only fueled my desire to stay home and attend. There is already a major industry established in Waikiki which was an opportunity that I could not pass up. Every day while in class, I feel more secure about choosing the right pathway. Plus, I get to always see my close friends and family members after a school day!
What is your favorite college moment so far?
My favorite college moment so far was during my first week of school. A few good friends and I decided to do a walking campus tour. We decided not to use a map...bad idea for first-timers. Half an hour into the tour, we all got tired and had no idea where we were. Originally, we were going from Campus Center to Lower Campus but ended up by the Thai Pavilion. Luckily, people pointed us in the right direction back to Campus Center!
What are 3 goals on your bucket list?
1. Finding and eating the best poke on Oahu
2. Hosting an episode of "Saturday Night Live"
3. Learning how to rap

What do you like most about the University of Hawaii at Manoa?
I really like how diverse the school body is, the vegetarian/vegan options given around school, how many language classes are given, and how close the school is to town and to the beach!
What words of wisdom or advice would you like to share with incoming UHM students?
Don't be scared to try new things. Get out of your comfort zone. Sometimes, you'll find a new hobby, or a bunch of friends by taking that first step.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
It would be to read at the speed of light and be able to retain that knowledge, so I would be able to read for class and still have time to hang with friends.

Major: Bachelors of Business Administration in Entrepreneurship
Hometown: Granite Bay, CA
Where is your favorite place to study off-campus?
If it isn't too windy that day, I love going to the beach to study off campus! Waikiki is easy to get to and from school, and it feels good to get some sun while hitting the books. There is also a Starbucks on the corner which is a perfect place if you need wifi, or if you want to cool off!
What is your favorite college moment so far?
My favorite college moment so far would have to be with the UH cheer team, running out on to the field at Aloha Stadium for our first football game this year! There was so much energy and hype for Hawai'i football and it was a moment of pure stoke to be on the field that night.
What is your favorite movie or TV show?
Favorite movie is Soul Surfer (I can literally quote the whole thing) and favorite TV show is either Kardashians or Cupcake Wars because they both entertain and make me laugh!

Major: Bachelor of Business Adminstration in Human Resource Management

What is the best class you have ever taken at UHM and why?
The best class I have ever taken at UHM so far has been COMG 251. It's a public speaking course, and I consider it the best one I've taken at UHM because it was the most challenging for me. Public speaking can be intimidating, but by taking this class I was able to get out of my comfort zone and learned skills that will help assist me in my future endeavors.
What words of wisdom or advice would you like to share with incoming UHM students?
Time management is key my friends. I recommend making a weekly schedule of what your semester will look like so you can have a visual guide of what to do with your time to be most productive. It will be challenging to follow this schedule at times, but it's very rewarding when you're able to persevere through hardships in order to complete a task/goal. You're also boosting your self-esteem at the same time so it's another win-win situation. However though, also make sure to take time off to rest and have fun by going out and meeting new people and doing different things. You need to have a good balance of work and rest if you're going to be most productive.
What is your favorite food or snack?
I carry with me a searing passion for the best food available to man, which is the burrito. This love I carry for the burrito will be passed down to my future generations.
