2015 Physics Open House
2015 Physics Open House

UH Mānoa's annual Department of Physics and Astronomy Open House will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016, from 8:30 a.m. to noon in Watanabe Hall. The event is free and open to the public. School teachers and students are welcome to attend.

Said Physics Associate Professor Veronica Bindi, “The open house will provide an opportunity to learn about Physics and what we do here at the Physics and Astronomy Department: collaborating with leading research institutes all over the world for wider scientific research and accelerating the development of cutting-edge solutions for the worldwide community.”

Fourteen sites in Watanabe Hall will feature physics and astronomy research and applications of physics as described by University faculty and students.

The open house will include a variety of live demonstrations that illustrate physics principles in mechanics, optics, and electricity and magnetism (E&M). The hands-on demos will allow attendees to experiment with angular momentum and center of gravity; operate a hover craft; check out polarized light effects; and experience the power of electromagnets, among other fun activities.

Laboratories, where fundamental physics research is performed, will be open to the public for this special occasion.
