Hōkūlani Imaginarium offers more than 33 Fulldome Shows in its Fall 2016 Schedule

KANE‘OHE – The evening of Wednesday, August 10, 2016 is the kick-off for the fall season of planetarium shows at The Hōkūlani Imaginarium on the campus of Windward Community College (WCC). Attendees during the ensuing six months will have the opportunity to enjoy more than 33 showtimes on 20 dates through January 21, 2017. Shows include live stargazing, rock-music-inspired light shows, Sesame Street animation, interactive space journeys, examinations of the culture and history of the formation of the Hawaiian Islands, and exploration of some of the warmest and brightest celebrations during winter, the darkest and coldest time of the year.
 

SPECIAL EVENT SHOWINGS in OCTOBER

Featured midway through the Imaginarium’s fall season will be showings of “Earth, Moon and Sun” at 11:00 a.m., and “Maunakea Between Earth and Sky” at 12:00 p.m. for the special price of $4 per person during the Windward Ho‘olaule‘a on Saturday, October 1. The $4 per person price will also be in effect for unique and eerie Halloween shows during the annual Haunted Village event the evening of Friday, October 28. Tickets for both event showings are available at the Imaginarium Box Office only.                                                                  


The variety of characters slated to be a part of the Imaginarium's schedule of educational, entertaining and insightful shows are wide-ranging: archaeologists, astronomers, naturalist and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough, a young, aquatic sawfish named Jake, astronauts, a jokester coyote, cowboy poet Baxter Black—even Big Bird and Elmo. Reservations can be made by calling (808) 235-7433 between 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The phone line is not available on weekends or holidays. Imaginarium admission prices apply: $7 for general admission; $6 for WCC students, military, seniors 65 years or older with identification; $5 for children 4 to 12 years of age; free for children under 4 years of age with 1 paying adult per child; free for WCC faculty or staff with university identification. Reserved tickets must be picked up at the Imaginarium box office at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the program. Unclaimed tickets are released for sale to walk-in attendees on a first come, first served basis.


About the Hōkūlani Imaginarium

The Imaginarium is located on the Windward Community College campus at 45-720 Kea‘ahala Road in Kane‘ohe. Named after the Hawaiian word for "starry heavens", the Hōkūlani Imaginarium is a high-tech planetarium and multimedia facility. The 84-seat theater operates a Definiti 4K fulldome system from Sky-Skan. The Digital Sky 2 technology allows audiences to experience immersive adventures in a true 360° environment. Viewers feel as if they are part of the unfolding scene, whether that involves falling through a black hole, flying through Saturn’s rings, or witnessing the beginnings of the universe.
