(Honolulu) – Honolulu Community College is the first in the state to offer non-credit courses in Hybrid and Electric vehicle automotive maintenance. Whether someone is a technician, a sales person, or just a car enthusiast, Honolulu CC is offering the most advanced training ever offered.
“We have developed new curriculum in hybrid and electric vehicle technology that meets the auto industry demands for highly trained technicians, especially in the emerging sector of hybrid and electric vehicle repair and maintenance,” shares Steve Auerbach, Director of Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning at Honolulu Community College.
EV/Hybrid Safety & Fundamentals
Dates: June 16 – July 2 (9 meetings)
Days: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday

The course is designed to give an overview on:
- Shop safety, proper procedures, and basic maintenance for EV/Hybrid vehicles.
- Participants will learn how to properly handle basic hand tools, high voltage equipment, and identification and purpose of the safety equipment required in an electrical systems environment.
- Technical Service Information and Vehicle Maintenance will also be covered.
The course, valued at $739, is being offered this summer only at a special rate of $395. Students must be 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license.
Participants will be able to gain valuable hands on technical experience working on a hybrid and electric vehicles using specialized equipment. These courses were developed as part of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College Career Training Grant, better known as C3T Hawai‘i.
C3T Hawai‘i is a $24.6 million grant awarded to the University of Hawai‘i Community Colleges through the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration. The grant will fuel the development of education and training curriculum and student academic/career coaching, which targets certificate and degree programs specific to the needs of agriculture, energy and health industries. These industry-focused, employer-driven programs are designed to increase college completion rates and provide job opportunities to the C3T participants.
