UHM accepted the 2014 NACCU Best Card Design Award during the 21st Annual National Association of Campus Card Users Conference recently held in Chicago.  Eddie Robles, Director of Student Life Business Services, was present to receive the honor on behalf of Student Life and Development’s card office. TCF Bank’s Jay Kosmicki presented the award.

The NACCU Best Card Design Award, sponsored by TCF Bank, is presented to the institution whose card design receives the most votes from NACCU members from the United States, Canada and other countries around the world. In 2014, there were 13 campus cards nominated for best card design.

The Mānoa One Card design features the Grassy Green artwork from surf artist and UH Mānoa graduate Heather Brown. “I am such a proud alumna of UHM and the Bachelor of Fine Arts Program," she said. "So when I was asked to donate art for this project, not only was it such an easy decision, but I am so honored.”

The new card, which is currently being issued to all incoming UHM students, faculty and staff, is slated to be distributed to over 25,000 students over the next two years. “UH was such a great experience for me in so many ways," said Brown. "Since graduating, I have been so proud to be a UH Mānoa graduate and speak about my time there a lot. Mahalo to the students and staff for giving me the chance to put a little more Aloha into the UH Mānoa school experience.”

The Mānoa One Card project, which launched in Fall 2013, is dedicated to enhancing the campus experience through continuous expansion of campuswide services associated with the advanced Near Field Communication (NFC) card.

Heather Brown
The artwork on the card was donated by local artist, Heather Brown. She received her Bachelor's in Fine Arts from UHM with an emphasis in printmaking, and currently lives on the North Shore of Oʻahu. She works with various mediums including acrylics, woodcuts, screen prints, and linocuts. Most of her inspiration comes from her love for the sea, nature, popular surf breaks, and the beauty of the islands. Heather is proud to represent women surfers and artists.
