UHCC 50th Anniversary

The University of Hawai'i Community College System is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with a kick-off event at the Hawai'i State Capitol, "UHCC College Day," from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Following the morning activities, the State Senate and the House of Representatives will be presenting special certificates commemorating UHCC's 50th Anniversary. (See schedule for details.)

SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

9:00 a.m.  - Opening Program (Rotunda Level)

  • A special opening 'oli followed by a symbolic presentation of the "opening of college doors" representing the community colleges' open-door mission of providing accessible, affordable, quality education.
  • Remarks from Governor Neil Abercrombie, State Senators Brian Taniguchi and Jill Tokuda, State Representative Isaac Choy, UH Interim President David Lassner, and UH Vice President for Community Colleges John Morton

9:20 a.m. - Fashion Show by Honolulu CC fashion design program (Rotunda Level)

9:30 to 11:30 a.m. - Demonstrations and hands-on activities in the Rotunda and 2nd Floor levels, which include:
Leeward CC Digital Media & TV Production (live videotaping & editing)
Kaua'i CC Digital Media (live videotaping & editing)
Maui College Culinary (food samples and tasting)
Hawai'i CC Model Home Program
Leeward CC Motorcycle Simulator
Windward CC Agripharmatech (pizza making)
Honolulu CC Construction Academy
Kapi'olani CC Robotics

11:30 a.m. -  Floor Presentation to honor UHCC's 50th Anniversary (Senate Chamber)

  • Senators Jill Tokuda and Brian Taniguchi
  • Accepting the certificates on behalf of the community colleges are: UH Board of Regent Chair John Holzman, UH Interim President David Lassner and UH Vice President for Community Colleges John Morton
  • Brief recess for photo ops, followed with a walk over to the House Chambers

12:00 noon - Floor Presentation to honor UHCC's 50th Anniversary (House of Representatives Chamber)

  • Representative Isaac Choy
  • Honorees include BOR Chair John Holzman, UH Interim President David Lassner, UH Vice President for Community Colleges John Morton, UHCC Associate Vice President for Administrative Affairs Michael Unebasami, UHCC Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Peter Quigley, Hawai'i CC Chancellor Noreen Yamane, Honolulu CC Chancellor Erika Lacro, Kapi'olani CC Chancellor Leon Richards, Kaua'i CC Chancellor Helen Cox, Leeward CC Chancellor Manuel Cabral, UH Maui College Chancellor Clyde Sakamoto and Windward CC Chancellor Douglas Dykstra.
