The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo has announced that the next Castellano en Peru summer study abroad program is set for May 27 - June 24, 2012.

The popular program, led by Sra. Luisa Oldmen, will take participants on a four-week educational journey immersing them in the language and culture of Perú, which will earn them six UH Hilo credits for SPAN 294 – Conversational Spanish (3 credits), and IS 393C – Castellano en Peru – Culture and Service (3 credits).

Castellano, the Spanish which Latin Americans speak, will be spoken each day in interactions with native speakers as participants experience the Peruvian culture through city tours, excursions to museums and archeological sites, music, dance, and food. They will also work alongside their Peruvian peers on various service learning projects in local communities.

Enrollment is limited and a $500 non-refundable deposit, applied to the program fee, is required at the time of registration.

For registration or for more information, call Corinne Tamashiro at (808) 974-7664, Carolina Lam at (808) 933-8810, or visit http://uhh.abroadoffice.net/peru.html. Additional information will also be available during an on-campus session with Sra. Oldmen and former participants, scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 1 p.m. in UCB 127.
