HONOLULU – A remarkable collection of Japanese contemporary and traditional art assembled by the Heart Art Communication, a Japanese nonprofit organization, will be on exhibit at Kapi'olani and Windward Community Colleges from July 18 to August 17, 2011.

The exhibition entitled, "Japanese Art Tapestry Festa in Hawai'i," features a collection of Sumi (black ink) paintings, calligraphy, western painting, sculpture, craft and print artwork from more than 250 artists presented on tapestries. With about 400 contemporary and traditional art to display, the collection will be divided between Windward Community College's Gallery 'Iolani and Kapi'olani Community College's Lama Library. Participating artists were selected through art associations and organizations throughout Japan, with each artist presenting works from their special art genre.

Heart Art Communication’s founders believe that these exhibitions will act as a bridge in respecting and understanding each other's culture. With a theme of cultural exchange, the exhibition has been held around the world in major cities including New York, Paris, Rome, Rothenberg, Mexico City, Seoul, Beijing, Vienna, Sofia, Barcelona, Moscow, Athens and Budapest.

Opening receptions will be held at Windward Community College's Gallery 'Iolani on Monday, July 18, from 4-7 p.m., and at Kapi'olani Community College's Lama Library on Tuesday, July 19, from 4-6 p.m. Co-sponsored by the University of Hawai'i Community Colleges, Kapi'olani Community College and Windward Community College, the opening receptions and exhibitions are free and open to the public.
