“What is the best reason to take a Summer Session class at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo?” Your answer could win you an iPad2. It’s all part of a new marketing campaign by the College of Continuing Education and Community Service (CCECS) to expand its reach to potential students and parents while generating buzz and excitement about the upcoming summer session.

“We wanted to promote Summer Session 2011 in a fun and novel way,” said Program Coordinator Dori Yamada. “This contest incorporates creativity, technology, and most importantly, the social networking that’s become the primary communication tool of today’s youth.”

Contestants are asked to submit a video in either QuickTime files or DVD formats with their response to: “What is the best reason to take a Summer Session class?” Videos can be up to one minute long and cannot contain any profanity, nudity, drug paraphernalia, graphic violence or logos (other than the UH logo, as found on official merchandise).

The contest is open to anyone residing in the state of Hawaiʻi and there are no limits on the number of entries, but all submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m. on June 6, 2011 and accompanied by a model release form for all participants in the video.

Videos will be judged on originality, creativity in execution and content and how well the question “What is the best reason to take a Summer Session class?” is answered. The top 20 submissions will be posted online on the CCECS YouTube page to be voted on by the public, beginning on June 16. The entry with the most number of votes when voting ends on June 30 will win the iPad2.

Hard copy DVDs can be sent to UH Hilo CCECS, Attn: Video Contest, 200 W. Kawili Street, Hilo HI 96720-4091. QuickTime files can be emailed to dayamada@hawaii.edu.

For questions about submitting a video entry, call (808) 974-7664.
