University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Chancellor Peter Englert has approved a proposed staffing plan that will allow Hamilton and Sinclair Libraries to be open for longer hours beginning October 14.
"Libraries are the basic academic resource, and we have been looking for ways to make them more accessible," Englert said. "Students are waiting at the doors to get into the libraries in the mornings, and at our recent forum with students, someone pointed out that one of the libraries isn‘t even open on Saturdays. So, we‘re fixing it."
Both Hamilton and Sinclair libraries will open their doors a little earlier; closing hours on Fridays and Sundays will be a little later; and Sinclair will now be open on Saturdays during the fall and spring semesters.
University Librarian Diane Perushek said, "The additional investment in the extra hours will be minimal, and staff have been extremely cooperative in adjusting schedules to provide coverage. We appreciate the chancellor‘s commitment to this extra service."
