Interim UH Mānoa Librarian Paula Mochida has been appointed the 2010 UH Mānoa campus coordinator for the Hawaiʻi Food Bank Drive. On April Fools' Day, the UH Mānoa Library held its inaugural Edible Book Contest in Sinclair Library.  The event raised $88 in cash and three boxes of food materials for the Hawaiʻi Food Bank.

In an effort to enliven food contributions, Mochida extended a collegial challenge to the UH System campuses to collectively match or out-do the UH Mānoa campus Food Bank collections. On Friday, April 16, from 11:00 a.m – 2:00 p.m., the UH Mānoa campus will support the statewide food drive efforts with fishbowls to collect monetary donations. The winner will be officially awarded bragging rights for next year’s food drive.  To date, UH Hilo and West Oʻahu have accepted the challenge.

UH Mānoa hopes that other campuses will accept its challenge and use it to encourage campus efforts to beat the Mānoa campus in contributions for the Hawaiʻi Food Bank.

Any bets on who will receive bragging rights for next year?  All proceeds go to the Hawaiʻi Food Bank.
