Honolulu - The University of Hawai‘i Alumni Association (UHAA) is now accepting nominations for the 2010 Distinguished Alumni Awards. Applications must be postmarked by October 30, 2009. Winners will be announced in January 2010 and honored at the Distinguished Alumni Awards dinner on May 11, 2010.

One of UHAA’s most important functions is to recognize those graduates who have made outstanding contributions to their professions and community with the Distinguished Alumni Award. Recipients of this award have committed themselves to advancing the values and goals of the University of Hawai‘i and ensuring improvement in the quality of life for future generations. The Distinguished Alumni Award pays tribute to notable alumni who bring high honor to themselves, the community and the University of Hawai‘i.

Nominees must be living and meet one of the following minimum criteria: 1) Receipt of one or more degrees from one or more of the University of Hawai‘i’s 10 campuses, or 2) completion of 50 percent of his/her educational degree program within the University of Hawai‘i System of 10 campuses. Selection will be based primarily on materials submitted by a nominator, which should expand on the following qualifications: 1) service to the University of Hawai‘i, 2) service to the community and 3) professional accomplishments. Detailed instructions are included in the nomination form, which can be found at www.UHalumni.org.

About the UH Alumni Association
The UHAA was informally constituted in 1922, a few years after the first graduating class of 1911, and formalized into a system‐wide umbrella organization for all UH‐recognized alumni groups in 1988. Its members support the university, and UHAA sponsors events that showcase the university’s excellence. Governed by a board of directors, UHAA includes a nationwide and international network of nearly 40 affiliated alumni groups. The association’s goal is to generate support for the university by encouraging interaction among UH graduates and friends. The UH Foundation established the Office of Alumni Relations with the approval of the Board of Regents in December 2002. The Office of Alumni Relations works closely with the UHAA to serve the community of UH alumni and students in Hawai‘i and worldwide.
