HONOLULU – Douglas Dykstra has been selected as the recipient of Hawaiʻi Community College Chancellor’s Award for his dedicated and outstanding service to the university.  Also known as the Hawaiʻi CC ʻAʻaliʻi Award, it is given to an employee who serves the college in an exemplary fashion, with grace and effectiveness despite many challenges and obstacles.

Dykstra was recently appointed chancellor of Windward Community College after serving as vice chancellor for academic affairs for Hawaiʻi CC since 2004.  While at Hawaiʻi CC, he established himself as an effective leader with a strong commitment to the faculty, staff, students and the local community.

He was instrumental in the 2006 accreditation process as well as updating the Hawaiʻi CC program reviews.  He worked closely with the Academic Senate and College Council to discuss faculty concerns and to maintain an open dialogue with administration.

Dykstra will be recognized for his achievements along with other UH award recipients at the annual Convocation ceremony to be held September 15, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Kennedy Theatre on the UH Mānoa campus.  The ceremony is open to the public at no charge, and no reservations are needed.  For more information on the awards ceremony, visit http://www.hawaii.edu/about/awards.
