UH Mānoa hosted Dr. Clifton Poodry, director of the National Institute for General Medicine Science (NIGMS) division of minority opportunities in research on Monday, July 20.

UH Mānoa Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Francisco Hernandez and Dr. Amy Agbayani from the UH Manoa Office of Student Equity Excellence and Diversity personally welcomed Dr. Poodry to the UH Mānoa campus. A short meeting with faculty and staff regarding NIGMS applications and a discussion period on how to meet the standards and criteria for NIGMS grants were a few of the topics covered. Information gained at this meeting will help facilitate applications from the UH Mānoa campus.

Poodry oversees the administration of grants designed to increase the number and capabilities of minority biomedical scientists. These grants support a variety of activities, including research training, infrastructure improvement, curriculum enrichment, and laboratory research at minority institutions.
