HONOLULU — The University of Hawaiʻi‘s six Oʻahu-based campuses generated their highest total ever in support of Aloha United Way (AUW)‘s 2008 campaign. Through generous contributions and a rousing softball tournament, UH employees on Oʻahu raised $419,537.

"The Aloha United Way helps so many in our community and in economic times such as these people come to depend on the support of such organizations," said UH President David McClain. "We are grateful to AUW and all in our university ʻohana who helped contribute to reaching a new high in total donations for the 2008 campaign. We are certain it will go a long way towards helping many families in our community."

"We are grateful to the university for its commitment to our annual campaign," said Susan Au Doyle, president and chief professional officer for Aloha United Way. "Thanks to the generosity and selflessness of the university, we are able to sustain a network of organizations that work to help our community. It is truly inspiring to see the campuses reach out and strive to achieve this great milestone."

The university has participated in the Aloha United Way campaign over the past 15 years and has raised over $5 million in total. Through employee campaigns, creative fundraising events as well as an annual softball tournament, the university demonstrates its full commitment to the betterment of our island community.

Aloha United Way works to improve lives, motivate people to help others, increase resources to meet needs, and inspire collective solutions to community problems. The UH campaign for AUW is still accepting donations. Please contact Mel Colquitt at 543-2243 or melvin@auw.org.
