Regents establish Visiting Professorship in UH Manoa College of Engineering

The University of Hawaiʻi Board of Regents today established the BobY.K. Wong Visiting Professorship in Civil Engineering at UH Manoa.

The new position is the initial step in establishing what will be thefirst professorial chair in the College of Engineering. It is funded byan endowment gift from the late Bob Y.K. Wong, a UH engineering alumnuswhose 30-year career as a civil engineer included work on the H-3 freeway,the Ford Island Causeway and projects along the Honolulu waterfront.

The professorial chair in the College's Department of Civil Engineeringwill establish and maintain ties with Asian and Pacific basin universities. The goal is to share and develop expertise and further knowledge in suchareas as transportation, tropical soils, flood control and structural issuesrelated to earthquakes and strong winds.
