Commencement ceremony for UH West Oʻahu this Friday

The holiday season will be extra special for 99 UH West Oʻahu graduates who will receive their diplomas or certificates on Friday, Dec. 19. The commencement ceremony will be held at the neighboring Leeward Community College Theater. Doors will open at 6 p.m. to ticket holders and promptly close when the ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. Latecomers and those without tickets may view the live ceremony from an outdoor screen. Graduates are expected to greet friends and family members outside of the theater at 7:30 p.m.



Of the 99 UH West Oʻahu graduates, 38 will receive their baccalaureate in Business Administration, two in Humanities, 26 in Public Administration and 31 in Social Sciences. Thirteen graduates will receive certificates in various programs including Applied Forensic Anthropology, Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management and Healthcare Administration.



University of Hawaiʻi President David McClain and University of Hawaiʻi Regent Ronald K. Migita are scheduled to speak at the commencement. UH West Oʻahu student Mano Takara will speak on behalf of the graduating class. Takara maintains a 4.0 grade point average and is a Business Administration major with a concentration in Accounting. She began her pursuit of a degree in higher education after moving to Hawaiʻi in 2004 from Tokyo, Japan, where she worked as a legal administrator in charge of intellectual property. Takara resides in Mililani and is currently a stay-at-home mother with a 20-month old daughter. In August, she will accept a position with the accounting firm Grant-Thornton and plans sit for the Certified Public Accountant Exam early next year.
