HONOLULU — Hawaiʻi residents know the ʻukulele well, but many may not realize the significant role the ʻukulele plays in the entertainment industry, not only in Hawaiʻi but around the globe. Its impact can be seen and felt in a broad spectrum of film and music, and over the years its appeal has only gotten stronger. On his last concert tour Paul McCartney brought a ʻuke along, Elvis Costello has revealed a ʻukulele during his encores, and it was reported that Adam Sandler insisted that he be photographed holding a custom-made ʻukulele in some of his publicity photos.

To promote new techniques and styles as well as celebrate the ʻukulele, the ʻUkulele Guild of Hawaiʻi (UGH) and Honolulu Community College‘s Music & Entertainment Learning Experience (MELE) program have joined together to sponsor the 7th Annual ʻUkulele Exhibition & Conference. The exhibition will be held from November 21-23 on the grounds of McKinley High School.

The exhibition is free and open to the general public. It features workshops for builders, technique demonstrations, and showcase performances each day. In addition, the exhibit will include UGH members-only instructional sessions, seminars, and access to performing artists.
