UH Manoa College of Engineering appoints Director of Marketing and Public Affairs

HONOLULU — The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa College of Engineering is pleased to announce the appointment of Eric R. Matsunaga as director of marketing and publicaffairs.

In his new role, Matsunaga will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic and tactical marketing services for the college, including brand management, positioning andmessaging, communications and publicity. He will work closely with the college‘s alumni association and will serve as a spokesperson for the college.

Prior to his recent appointment, Matsunaga served as special events manager for the Chancellor‘s Office at UH Mānoa and as special events coordinator for the University of Hawaiʻi President‘s Office. He has over 20 years of combined experience in advertising, marketing, public relations and special events management, which includes work at the Hawaiʻi State Legislature, Atlantis Adventures, First Hawaiian Bank, Honolulu Medical Group, Honolulu Symphony, Pacific Resources, Inc. and the Navy Public Works Center at Pearl Harbor.

"Mr. Matsunaga is well-known to the Mānoa Campus and the local community. He has already worked with many individuals in the college and is well-liked," said Peter E. Crouch, dean of theUH Mānoa College of Engineering. "It is clear from his past experience that he will be able to represent and promote the college within the broad community it serves and its stakeholders. We look forward to working with him"

A resident of Mililani Mauka, Matsunaga holds a bachelor‘s degree in journalism with an emphasis on public relations from UH Mānoa and is a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Hawaii Chapter. He is a graduate of Mililani High School.

The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa College of Engineering has launched thousands of successful careers in Hawaiʻi and throughout the world. Graduates occupy key roles with engineering firms, government agencies, defense contractors, and as entrepreneurs. Many of its 9000 alumni have made significant engineering contributions to the state‘s infrastructure and are now set on accomplishing similar tasks abroad. The college‘s respect for the Hawaiian culture is reflected in its successful mentoring program for under-represented science and engineeringstudents.
