HONOLULU — Linda Maeno, an Information Technology Specialist, has been named as recipient of the 2008 UH West Oʻahu Chancellor‘s Award. The award recognizes a civil service or administrative, professional and technical (APT) employee for outstanding demonstrated work performance, service, leadership and/or fostering of excellence in higher education.

Maeno is responsible for providing computing support for UH West Oʻahu faculty. With her 26 years of IT experience, she has proven to be a valuable asset to the university. Among her many contributions, she helped UHWO faculty offer more online or WebCT-enhanced courses by creating online tutorials for students taking distance delivered courses. She also developed and implemented a plan to transition UHWO‘s course management system, and provided applicable technology-related workshops for faculty, staff and students.

UH West Oʻahu Librarian Eric Flower, Maeno‘s supervisor, noted, "She has handled a changing teaching environment and growing workload with a combination of professional knowledge and enthusiasm that should be publicly acknowledged, encouraged, and rewarded."

Maeno will be recognized for her achievements along with other UH award recipients at the annual convocation ceremony to be held September 9, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Kennedy Theatre on the UH Mānoa campus. The ceremony is open to the public at no charge and no reservations are needed.
