HONOLULU — At its monthly meeting held today at Leeward Community College, the Board of Regents voted to accept two multi-million dollar donations to the university. A $3 million gift from Barry and Virginia Weinman will establish a Dean‘s Chair in Medicine at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM). The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation‘s $5 million gift will support the construction of the Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Diamond Head, an advanced culinary training facility.

"We are most grateful for the continuing generosity of Barry and Virginia Weinman and the gift of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation," said UH President David McClain. "The philanthropy of those in our community greatly facilitates our ongoing effort to respond to the higher education and workforce needs of the state."

A news conference will be held on Friday, August 8, at 10:30 a.m. at JABSOM to celebrate the Barry and Virginia Weinman gift and discuss its impact on Hawaiʻi‘s healthcare challenges.

A separate news conference is planned to share the details of the $5 million gift from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation for the Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Diamond Head on Thursday, August 7, at 8:45 a.m. at the Hawaiʻi Convention Center. The donation brings the UH Foundation to the halfway point in their fundraising goal for private contributions for the project.
