UH Honors 2008 Regents and Presidential Scholars
University of HawaiʻiThe University of Hawai'i will honor and recognize 30 students awarded with the prestigious Regents and Presidential Scholarships at an annual awards dinner in their honor on Thursday, July 31, at the Japanese Cultural Center in Moiliili. The UH Board of Regents established the Regents and Presidential Scholarships to support students with a record of outstanding academic achievement.
Regents Scholarships are awarded to 20 outstanding incoming freshmen enrolling at any campus of the University of Hawai'i who received at least a 1,950 combined score on all three sections of the SAT, or combined score of at least 29 on the ACT. They also need to have maintained at least a 3.5 GPA in academic subjects for grades 9 through 11, and have displayed evidence of superior academic achievement in co-curricular activities and/or involvement in community service activities.
Presidential Scholarships are awarded to 10 college juniors who have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.7 for all college level work, a record of sustained progress in academic courses, and evidence of superior academic achievement or creative endeavor. They must also be full-time undergraduate students entering their junior year who are seeking a degree in any course of study at a baccalaureate campus of the University of Hawai'i and have a record of academic and co-curricular and community service activities in college.
Students meeting the above criteria, including a Bona fide resident of Hawai'i at time of application, may be eligible for scholarship consideration.
Regents Scholars selected receive a full tuition waiver or four years of undergraduate study, and Presidential Scholars receive a full tuition waiver for two years of undergraduate study. All scholars receive a tuition waiver and $2,000 stipend each semester, plus a one-time travel grant of $2,000. The program is administered by the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.
