PEARL CITY, Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi - The UH West Oʻahu (UHWO) Psychology Club and Psi Chi, the university‘s chapter of the National Psychology Honors Society, recently donated $200 to the U.S. Veterans Initiative, a national non-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless and at-risk veterans. The donation was used to purchase hot dogs and hamburgers served to homeless veterans on Memorial Day at Ala Moana Park by local U.S. Veterans Initiative members and UH West Oʻahu student volunteers. In addition, the Psychology Club and Psi Chi chapter donated textbooks to the U.S. Vets library to assist veterans interested in pursuing higher education.

"The U.S. Vets‘ dedicated staff has done an outstanding job supporting the homeless veterans and West Oʻahu homeless communities," said Rodney Boucher, UH West Oʻahu Psychology Club Treasurer and Psi Chi Chapter President.

The donated funds were raised through on-campus fundraisers including t-shirt and beverage sales supported by UHWO students, faculty and staff.

UHWO Psychology Club members meet throughout the year to discuss careers in psychology, internship and volunteer opportunities and graduate school programs. In addition, the club sponsors guest lectures from members in the mental health field and provides students with an opportunity to develop leadership, organizational and other professional skills.
