Na Pua Noʻeau announces recipients of the 2008 Hideo Noguchi Advancement of Native Hawaiians Scholarship

Six students were selected to receive the newly established Na Pua Noʻeau Hideo Noguchi Advancement of Native Hawaiians Scholarship to attend one of the University of Hawaiʻi campuses. Students who had been active participants of the University of Hawaiʻi‘s Na Pua Noʻeau, a Kindergarten through Grade 12 Statewide culture-based Center, were eligible to apply.

The recipients are:

  • Kiani Elie Yasak from Maui, will be a junior at the University of Hawaii at Hilo majoring in Hawaiian Studies. $800 award

  • Alexander Kealiʻi Kea III from Oʻahu, will be a freshman at the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa majoring in Hawaiian Studies. $900 award

  • Cheney-Ann Pulama Kealoha Keikilani Lima from Molokaʻi, will be a junior at UH Hilo majoring in Hawaiian Studies and Political Science. $800 award

  • Nakoa Michael Derrick Goo from Hilo, will be a senior at UH Hilo majoring in Marine Science. $800 award

  • Pililuaikekaiohilo Mary Keala from Molokaʻi, will be a senior at UH Manoa majoring in Hawaiian Studies/Hawaiian Language. $900 award

  • Kalia Susan Yasak from Maui, will be a freshman at UH Hilo majoring in Hawaiian Studies and Nursing. $800 award

  • Na Pua Noʻeau has over 800 college students currently enrolled at one of the University of Hawaiʻi campuses. The goal of the Center is to raise the achievement and aspirations of Hawaiian students and their families.
