UH West Oʻahu assistant professor elected to the board of directors for the Hawaiʻi Council of Teachers of Mathematics

UH West Oʻahu (UHWO) Assistant Professor of Mathematics Dr. Linda Furuto was recently elected as four-year college director to the 2008-2009 Board of Directors for the Hawaiʻi Council of Teachers of Mathematics (HCTM). Furuto previously served as treasurer for the organization in the 2007-2008 academic year.



The HCTM provides vision, leadership, and professional development to support teachers in ensuring equitable math learning of the highest quality for all students. It is the premiere organization supporting elementary, middle, high school, and college mathematics in the state of Hawaiʻi.



Dr. Furuto grew up on the North Shore of Oʻahu and is currently a resident of Manoa. She holds a Bachelor‘s degree from Brigham Young University, a Master‘s degree from Harvard University and a PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles. Furuto is an active volunteer with the University of Hawaiʻi Faculty Ambassadors Program and played an instrumental role in opening the new UHWO Math Center where students receive tutoring assistance and work with math tutors on real-world mathematics applications in addition to traditional class assignments.
