The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa will conduct an integrated campus-wide test of its crisis communications capabilities next Tuesday, April 15, starting at 11:55 a.m. At that time all students, faculty and staff will be sent test alerts by email, text messages and/or telephone. Emergency notification messages will direct members of the UH community to definitive sources of information via telephone or the web.

Also at 11:55 a.m., Campus Security officers will test their vehicles‘ public address systems - installed over the past year for use in case of emergencies - in the area of Hawai‘i Hall and Varney Circle. In case of an actual emergency, Campus Security would use the loudspeakers to announce an emergency, and warn listeners to evacuate or take cover.

This will be the first test of the newly-installed student text-messaging system, for which more than 2,000 UH Mānoa students have signed up since late February. All members of the UH community are urged to sign up to receive emergency alerts by going online at www.hawaii.edu/alert.

Today all UH Mānoa students, faculty and staff will receive an email message informing them of next week‘s test and encouraging them to sign up to receive alerts by text-message.
