HONOLULU — The University of Hawaiʻi Foundation received a $250,000 gift to establish the $500,000 Lloyd Fujie/Deloitte Foundation Distinguished Accounting Professorship Endowment Fund at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Shidler College of Business. The $250,000 gift was matched through Shidler Matching Funds for a total of $500,000. The Endowed Professorship was established in memory of Lloyd Fujie, a graduate of the Shidler College of Business and former Managing Partner of Deloitte &
Touche LLP, Honolulu office, and to assist the College in its efforts to recruit and retain faculty of the highest caliber in the area of accountancy.

Paul Higo, Managing Partner of Deloitte & Touche LLP, said, "We‘re honored we had the opportunity to work with Lloyd Fujie. He did so much for Deloitte and for the business community—he will be remembered for a very long time."

"I want to thank our people, clients and the business community for strongly supporting us with this endowment," Higo continued. "Together we hope we can enhance the quality of accounting and business education at the Shidler College of Business for years to come. We had Deloitte professionals from all over the U.S. contributing to this endowment and supporting us in this effort."

"We‘re grateful to the Partners of Deloitte & Touche LLP and to the many donors that have contributed to the Lloyd Fujie/Deloitte Professorship," said V. Vance Roley, Dean of the Shidler College of Business. "Lloyd was a dear friend of the College and over the years has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to higher education. This professorship will enable the College to recruit an outstanding faculty member that exemplifies Lloyd‘s commitment to quality accounting education, teaching and research."

"I want to thank Deloitte & Touche LLP for their philanthropic leadership in honoring Lloyd Fujie with the establishment of an Endowed Accounting Professorship at the Shidler College of Business," said UH Mānoa Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw. "This endowed professorship gives students a wonderful opportunity to learn from the best scholars and practitioners in the accounting field and ensures a quality accounting program for future generations of accounting leaders."

To date, over 140 donors have contributed to the endowment, including Deloitte & Touche LLP employees in Honolulu and throughout the U.S., and friends and past associates of Fujie. Deloitte & Touche LLP Managing Partner Paul Higo, and Tertia Freas, Partner, organized the fundraising effort in honor of Fujie.

"Lloyd sincerely believed that the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa has one of the best business schools in the nation," said Carol, wife of Lloyd Fujie. "Being an advocate for the Shidler College of Business where he received his BBA and MBA as did many of the Deloitte staff, Lloyd would have been proud and honored that Deloitte has established this endowment fund. Gregg, Todd and I would like to thank all the generous contributors to this fund in Lloyd's memory."

Fujie, who passed away in December of 2006, received his BBA in 1971 and his MBA in 1973 from the Shidler College of Business. Fujie worked for Deloitte & Touche LLP for 32 years, the last ten as Managing Partner.
