Naya to speak on Native Hawaiian income distribution and poverty alleviation

Dr. Seiji Naya presents a free public lecture at the University of Hawaii at Hilo on the results of an Office of Hawaiian Affairs‘ study on income distribution of Native Hawaiians. His presentation will be held on Monday, March10 at 5 p.m. in Campus Center 301.

The results of the study suggest various policy measures to alleviate poverty and to improve the welfare of the Native Hawaiian community.

Naya is a professor emeritus of economics at UH Manoa, and a Distinguished Senior Visiting Fellow at the East West Center of Honolulu. He is a former chief economist of the Asian Development Bank, State of Hawaiʻi Department of Business and Economic Development and tourism director and chair of the Economics Department at UH Manoa. He was also a two-time NCAA featherweight boxing champion at UH Manoa, 1954 and 1955.

The event is sponsored by the UH Hilo College of Business and Economics, the China-U.S. Relations Program, and the Kipuka Native Hawaiian Student Center.
