HONOLULU - The William S. Richardson School of Law, The College of Education and The Center on Disability Studies at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa present Martha Minow, the Jeremiah Smith Jr. Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, who will speak on "Just Schools: Pursuing Equality in Societies of Difference," Wednesday, February 20, 5:30-6:45 p.m. at the UH Law School, Classroom 2.

Minow is the co-editor of a forthcoming collection of essays, "Just Schools: Pursuing Equality in Societies of Difference," to be published in April 2008. She demonstrates in her book how educators and policymakers can share the goal of equal opportunity in schools while holding very different views on what is required to create a "just school" in multicultural America. While some emphasize the importance of integration and equal treatment for all, others argue for different ways of fostering equal opportunity, while also honoring diversity. "Just Schools" provides a provocative look at our efforts to define and promote justice, not only in educational institutions but in society at large.

Professor Minow will speak on the findings of this project and then engage in a discussion with the audience. The event is free and open to the public. There will be a light reception before the talk. Seating is limited; please R.S.V.P. at 956-8478 or e-mail at lawevent@hawaii.edu.
