The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) program at the University of Hawaii at Hilo North Hawaiʻi Education and Research Center (NHERC) presents a philosophy class that explores classic Chinese thought on Wednesdays from February 27 through May 10, 6-8 pm, at the site of the old Honoka‘a hospital.

Don Levi, professor emeritus, University of Oregon, will direct the study of five great Confucian and Taoist philosophers: Confucius; Mencius; Hsun Tzu; Lao Tzu and Chuang Tzu. Participants will read and discuss the writings of these philosophers and ponder the following, among other questions: What is human nature, and is it good or bad? How can we teach people to change for the better? What role should ritual, religion, tradition and family play in how we lead our lives? How should we deal with the fact that we will die someday?

Cost is $40 with a $5 discount for OLLI members. For more information, or to register, please call (808) 775-8890.
