PEARL CITY, Oahu — Leeward Community College presents an exclusive free workshop for teachers interested in learning how to incorporate comedy and art into science education. Paul Zaloom, the wacky, wild-haired host of the Saturday morning science show "Beakman‘s World," will lead a special workshop entitled "Science Edu-tainment," on Thursday, January 31, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Leeward Community College campus, Room GT 105.

Combining science education and entertainment, "Science Edu-tainment" is designed for both science and general education teachers and education majors, and will explore unconventional ways to teach scientific principles, finding the common ground between science, art and comedy. Zaloom will show teachers some fun and easy hands-on science demonstrations, using audience participation and lots of humor.

Called "one of the most original and talented political satirists working in the theater" by the New York Times, Paul Zaloom is an OBIE-winning puppeteer and performance artist who has written, designed and performed numerous solo spectacles, including "Fruit of Zaloom," "Zaloominations," and "Creature from the Blue Zaloom." He has performed at venues across the United States and has taught puppetry and cantastoria (picture performance) at colleges and universities in the United States and Europe. For more information about him and his show, visit www.beakmansworldtv.com.

The workshop is free and no RSVP is necessary. The workshop is presented by the Leeward Community College Theatre Department. For more information about the workshop, contact Erin Loo at 455-0392 or eloo@hawaii.edu.
