HONOLULU — Governor Linda Lingle has released $7,971,000 in construction funds for the second and final phase of the One-Stop Center at Kauaʻi Community College (KCC).

Phase I of the center is under construction and will include space for student services, the University Center and business operations. Phase II will be adjacent to Phase I and will provide a permanent facility for classrooms for the Office of Continuing Education and Training (OCET) and the campus bookstore.

OCET manages all non-credit training courses, international programs, the apprenticeship training program and the performing arts center.

"By improving KCC facilities and providing the school with space to expand its programs, this project will benefit the larger Kauaʻi community," said Governor Lingle. "Phase II will create a central location for lifelong learners on Kauaʻi and give KCC the capacity to increase course offerings for students and current members of the workforce who are eager to develop new skills."

Presently, OCET operates out of portable buildings and borrowed classrooms and does not have space to grow. During the 2006-2007 academic year, OCET enrolled more than 1,700 students in 156 different classes.

In May 2007, the Governor released $700,000 for the design of Phase II and $430,000 for the construction of a second access road from Kaumualiʻi Access Road to KCC to relieve traffic on the current access road shared with Island School. The second access road is on schedule to be completed in January 2008.

Construction of Phase I of the One-Stop Center is scheduled to be completed in May 2008. Construction of Phase II is scheduled to begin in April 2008 and be completed in June 2009.
