UH Manoa student leaders to be honored at commencement

HONOLULU - Two student leaders will be honored with the Undergraduate Leadership Distinction Award at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa Fall 2007 Commencement Exercises beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday, December 16, 2007, at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Undergraduate Leadership Distinction Award is a prestigious honor given to students who demonstrate exemplary service to their fellow students and the campus community.

The recipients of the prestigious Undergraduate Leadership Distinction Award for Fall 2007 are:

Susan C. Furmanski of Brooklyn, New York, who served with the Associated Students of the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa holding numerous positions including Chair of the Committtee on Undergraduate Academic Affairs and Chair of the Committee on Finance and Investments. While on ASUH, Susan also served as the student representative on the Mānoa Faculty Senate‘s Committee on Student Affairs and the Committee on Education Planning & Policy. Finally, Susan served with the Beta Alpha Psi student organization;

Crystal ʻIlima Kaʻaikala of Waiʻanae, Oʻahu, who served with Student Support Services, volunteered with Nā Pua Noʻeau, volunteered with Kuaʻana Native Hawaiian Student Development Services, provided workshops for the Mānoa Educational Talent Search Program and served with S-cubed student organization.

"We extend our appreciation to these leaders for their contributions to their fellow students and the community," said Dr. Jan Javinar, Director of Co-curricular Activities, Programs & Services.

About the Undergraduate Leadership Distinction Award

In Spring 2003, the Associated Students of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa created this award to recognize exceptional undergraduate student leaders who dedicate time throughout their college careers to serve their fellow students. The award is administered through the Leadership Development Program of the Office of Co-curricular Activities, Programs & Services.
