KAHULUI, Maui, Hawaii - In an effort to make culinary arts education and training accessible to all, Maui Culinary Academy is now offering evening classes.

"This is a step in the right direction as it allows us to take full advantage of our state-of-the-art training facility, extend short-term training opportunities to cooks and bakers currently in the industry, and increase interest and enrollment in our program," notes Program Coordinator Chris Speere.

Maui Culinary Academy offers a wide variety of culinary classes that prepare students for employment in Maui‘s thriving culinary arts industry.

Maui Culinary Academy utilizes a competency based instruction which focuses on the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed for career success. Classes offered during the evening session include Culinary Art Skill Building, Short Order Cookery, Pantry, and Fundamental and Intermediate Cookery. Each class encompasses a wide variety of "hands on" training skills with an introduction to dynamic menu and recipe preparations. Additionally, "Certificates of Competence" are issued to students who successfully meet class requirements.

If you‘re looking for a career in the culinary arts and seek training during the evening, call 984-3272 or email vorhies@hawaii.edu for more information. You can also visit the Maui Culinary academy website at http://mauiculinary.com/academy.

Maui Culinary Academy offers Maui‘s award-winning Culinary Arts Program in the 38,000 square-foot Pä‘ina Culinary Arts Center at Maui Community College in Kahului. Instructors integrate classes with commercial operations to offer a dynamic learning environment. Students gain hands-on training in nine kitchen facilities, and prepare for the real world by operating a six-venue food court as well as a fine-dining restaurant. The curriculum emphasizes additional learning through research and development experiences with local chefs, restaurants, farmers, and vendors.
