The Academy for Creative Media at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa has established an internship program with the production and writing team for the CW Network hit "Smallville."

ACM graduate Ty Sanga, currently pursuing a Master‘s Degree at Chapman University, is the first ACM-Smallville intern, working with Tollin/Robbins, a producer of the Superman prequel TV show.

Matt Okumura of the show‘s co-producers Millar Gough Ink arranged the internship with ACM Director Chris Lee. "We‘ll make sure he gets to spend time in the writer‘s room, editing suites and in production meetings," Okumura said. "We‘ll make his experience as educational as possible in terms of how a TV show is run."

Sanga said, "They work non-stop. It‘s great to see how a television works from the writing and editing standpoint."

Sanga‘s ACM student films have been widely screened in U.S. festivals and have been audience favorites at the Hawaiʻi and Shanghai International Film Festivals.

"Ty represents the tremendous potential of ACM to help build a Hawaiʻi-based film industry through the development of Hawaiʻi-based talent," said ACM Director Chris Lee. "Ty‘s goal is to tell Hawaiʻi‘s stories to the world. He is now moving his skills from the classroom to the studio, where that goal can be realized."

Tollin/Robbins Productions has also produced the films "Wild Hogs," and "Coach Carter."

The Academy for Creative Media is the primary place for media studies, filmmaking, animation and video game design.
