UH Board of Regents elects new chairman

The University of Hawaiʻi Board of Regents (BOR) elected Allan R. Landon to serve as its new chairperson for the 2007-2008 year. The board also elected Andres Albano Jr. to serve as vice chairperson.

Landon has served as a BOR member since 2005 and is chairman and chief executive officer of Bank of Hawaiʻi. He holds a BS degree from Iowa State University and has attended executive programs at Duke and Northwestern universities. An accountant by education, he was a partner with Ernst and Young LLP prior to joining the Bank of Hawaiʻi.

Landon is active on numerous boards including serving as chairman of Hawaiʻi Medical Service Association, and a director of the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaiʻi (RCUH), Catholic Charities of Hawaiʻi, Public Schools of Hawaiʻi Foundation and more. He is also an officer of the Hawaiʻi Business Roundtable and is active with the Military Affairs Council of the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaiʻi. Landon previously served as the treasurer of the University of Hawaiʻi Foundation.

"The Board of Regents and our University have accomplished a great deal under the leadership of Kitty Lagareta and Ron Migita. We thank Kitty and Ron and look forward to continuing the progress that has been made in the recent years," said Landon.

Andres Albano has been a member of the BOR since 2004. He is a principal and senior vice president of commercial real estate brokerage CB Richard Ellis Hawaii, a founding member of its Board of Directors and director of the Development Consulting Group.

He also currently serves as vice chair of the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii. Albano received a BS in electrical engineering and an MBA from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. He also previously served as president of the Development Association of Hawaiʻi, the Hawaiʻi Developers Council and the Honolulu Chapter of the National Society of Professional Engineers.

Other current members of the BOR include the following members: Kitty Lagareta, outgoing chair and chairwoman and CEO of Communications Pacific; Byron W. Bender, UH Mānoa emeritus professor of linguistics; Ramón S. de la Peña, retired agronomist and emeritus researcher in the UH Mānoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources; Marlene M. Hapai, professor emeritus of biology at UH Hilo and owner of Science FUNdamentals; James J.C. Haynes II, chief executive officer of Maui Petroleum; Ronald K. Migita, Chairman of the Board for Central Pacific Bank; Jane B. Tatibouet, executive vice president of AST Holdings; and student Regent Michael Dahilig.
