UH Manoa names gender equity counselor

HONOLULU - An award-winning Honolulu attorney with more than a decade of service in the Violence Against Women movement has been appointed the new Gender Equity Counselor for the University of Hawaii at Manoa by interim Chancellor Denise Eby Konan.

Jennifer Rose has been a managing attorney and director for the past 10 years at the Domestic Violence Clearinghouse and Legal Hotline. She begins at the Manoa campus on Thursday, March 15.

The Office of the Gender Equity Counselor provides assistance to students and employees on issues related to sexual harassment, conducts educational workshops, and provides advocacy and informal resolutions for students. The emphasis is on education, prevention and early resolution.

Rose also teaches as an adjunct professor at the Family Law Clinic at the UH William S. Richardson School of Law and last year was named the "Adjunct Professor of the Year." She also received the 2006 Outstanding Public Service Award for a Female Attorney from the Hawaii Women Legal Foundation.

She is a national trainer and has consulted internationally on violence against women issues. She was recently been selected as faculty for the American Bar Association and the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. Rose is a 1994 graduate of the UCLA School of Law
