Abstract Submission Guidelines and Instructions

All submitted abstract must conform to the following guidelines and instructions in order to be considered.

  1. Size - The entire abstract must be written in 10-point Times; and, the content, including title, author(s), affiliation(s), city and state, e-mail address, and text must fit within the allocated space (6.5" wide by 4.75" high).
  2. Title - The title must be written in title case (not all caps) and in bold type; and, it should be brief and clear.
  3. Authors and Co-Authors - All authors must provide a brief bio description (25 words) of themselves.  The presenting author's name must be underlined. The presenting author will serve as the primary contact person for the submitted abstract, and s/he will be responsible for giving the oral or poster presentation. Deadline for abstract withdrawal is December 5, 2007.
  4. Body of Abstract - The body of the abstract should be clear and concise, describing purpose of the paper/study and the approach/methods used; and, the results should contain adequate detail and discussed in the conclusions. Please avoid the use of subheadings and statements such as, "The results will be discussed". All abbreviations must be spelled-out the first time they appear; but, they can be abbreviated thereafter.
  5. Changes - Minor changes to submitted abstracts are allowed, provided they are made by December 5, 2007.  Please send your request for abstract modification to Dr. Ruth Mabanglo (mabanglo@hawaii.edu) by this deadline.
  6. Subject Category and Preferred Form of Presentation - All authors must identify the topic under which they would like the abstract to be classified. We would like to ensure that everyone's presentation (oral and poster) is placed in the appropriate session.

  7. Submission - All abstracts must be submitted electronically with the Email Subject Heading as Filipino Global Language.  The abstract must be attached as a Word document with the following filename format:
    MainAuthor’sLastname_Initial_UH2008.doc (Ex. DelaCruz_J_UH2008.doc)
    We will not accept fax copies of abstracts and, there is no limit to the number of abstracts submitted.
  8. Deadline - Abstracts must be received on or before October 5, 2007. This deadline also applies to previously submitted abstracts and proposals.
  9. Notification of Receipt - We will notify you of receipt of your abstracts via email.  The author should inform us if confirmation of receipt is not received within 5 business days of abstract submission.
  10. Proofread your abstract carefully - A group of Filipino language experts will conduct a blind review of the abstracts and will assign each abstract to a poster or oral session. The best abstracts from each thematic category will be selected for oral presentation.
  11. Notification of Acceptance - We will give further notice as to which of the abstracts are selected for oral presentations. All others will be presented in the poster session.
  12. Fees and Expenses - All presenting authors must pay the conference registration fee and assume responsibility for their travel and lodging expenses.
  13. Visas to the USA - We will not issue any letter of invitation to support your application to come to the US.  We will, however, issue a letter confirming your participation upon receipt of your registration fee payment.
