Seminar Abstract:

Current and detailed geospatial data are necessary for addressing a variety of important issues and tasks facing Hawaiʻi and neighboring Pacific Island nations. Examples include invasive species detection, quantification and prediction of the impacts of sea-level rise, anthropogenic land use and land cover change, community response to natural disasters, and the inventory and monitoring of forest and agricultural resources. This talk will provide an introduction to some of the geospatial research underway at the UH Hilo SDAV Research Laboratory, focusing on the integration of remote sensing, GIS and artificial intelligence to address environmental problems of local significance.
