Professor Hanae Kramer’s presentation is the story of the Nikudan-san’yūshi phenomenon: told as a brief history of one of Japan’s greatest media sensations as well as an explanation of a cultural movement that glorified self-sacrifice and which promoted suicide attacks as a legitimate military tactic. She will also explain her exhibit “Japanese Suicide Bombers, 1932.”
